First time mom here so a lot of basic doubts in my head. I keep wondering at what stage the milk actually starts coming, like is it before delivery or only after. Pls explain from ur experience.
My doctor explained the body makes colostrum from around the second trimester onwards, though many dont notice it until later or until after delivery. Actual milk production ramps up postpartum once the baby arrives. So early leaking or none, both are normal.
Your breasts start preparing quite early, but that thick yellow colostrum usually shows up in the later weeks of pregnancy for many. For me a little leaked in the third trimester. The full milk really comes in after the baby is born, so dont worry if you dont see much before.
I had a C-section and worried my milk would be late, but the colostrum was already there and the milk came in within a few days after. The body knows what to do. Dont stress about the timing during pregnancy itself.
