Currently in my second trimester and I noticed my breasts feeling fuller and a bit different. Got me wondering at what stage the milk actually starts forming. just curious how this whole thing happens.
Your body actually starts preparing quite early, the first milk colostrum can develop from around the second trimester, though u may not notice it. Some leak a little in later months. The full milk really comes in a few days after delivery. Its all natural, dont worry if u dont leak.
My amma told me the body prepares slowly through pregnancy and the milk truly flows after the baby arrives. Thats how it was for me. If u have any doubts about supply later, a lactation consultant or your doctor can guide gently.
Colostrum forms in the later half of pregnancy, thats the thick first milk. Some women see drops, many dont, both normal. The proper milk supply kicks in 2 to 4 days postpartum once the baby starts feeding. Frequent feeding builds it up.
I felt a bit anxious because I didnt leak anything during pregnancy and thought something was wrong. But my milk came in properly a couple days after my baby was born. So please dont measure it by what happens during pregnancy.
