When does milk produce in breast during pregnancy?
Im around 5 months and noticed thoda changes in my breasts already. Wondering when milk actually starts forming, is it before delivery itself? first time mom here so everything is new.
My pregnancy tracker app mentioned that colostrum can start forming as early as week 16! But most moms don't notice any leakage until right before or after birth. It's highly variable.
I was so worried because I didn't see any leakage even in my 9th month, and I thought I wouldn't be able to breastfeed. But honestly, my milk came in beautifully on the third day after delivery. Don't overthink this!
Medically, prolactin levels increase during pregnancy but progesterone keeps actual milk production in check. Once the baby is born and placenta is out, progesterone drops and milk starts. You might just leak some colostrum before that.
For me, a tiny bit of clear liquid started leaking around the 6th month, and I was so worried. My doctor gently explained it is just colostrum and completely normal. Every body is different, so don't stress.
Some moms leak a bit of yellow liquid in the late months, which is normal. Don't try to squeeze or pump it out during pregnancy as it can cause contractions. Just let nature take its course.
With my PCOS, I was worried my hormones would affect milk production. I didn't leak anything during pregnancy, but after birth, my milk supply was absolutely fine. Trust your body.
I read that breast tissue undergoes changes from the first trimester itself to prepare for lactation. However, actual breast milk 'comes in' 2 to 5 days after delivery. Any leakage during pregnancy is just early colostrum.
Haha, don't expect actual milk bottles to start leaking during pregnancy! You might see some yellow sticky drops (colostrum) in the third trimester, but the real supply only starts a few days after delivery.
This is such a fascinating thing to learn about. Does the breast size change a lot when milk production starts during pregnancy? I am just curious to know.
Active breast milk production is triggered by hormone changes after the placenta is delivered. During pregnancy, your body only prepares colostrum, which you might or might not leak. It's completely normal either way.
