Im 36 weeks and my doctor checked and said cervix is still closed. Got me wondering when it actually starts to open before labour. Is it like a sudden thing or slowly over days?
Normally only at the time of labour. But some women have weak cervix that opens early, I had a friend who needed a stitch for that. If you ever feel pressure or have a history, do mention to your gynac so they keep an eye.
Dont worry beta, it opens when your body is ready for delivery, usually at full term. Till then its closed and keeping baby safe. Your doctor checks it in the last weeks, all natural.
My doctor explained cervix normally stays closed the whole pregnancy and opens during labour, measured in cm till 10 for delivery. In some cases it opens early which is a concern, but thats not common and they monitor it.
It usually starts opening near your due date when labour begins, thats when they check dilation. In my normal delivery they kept checking how many cm i was open. Before that it stays closed to protect baby.
