When does the umbilical cord develop in pregnancy?
First time mom here and im just fascinated reading about how baby grows. Was curious at which week the cord actually forms and starts working. If any of u know from ur scans pls share.
From what my doctor explained, the umbilical cord starts forming quite early, around week 5 to 7, and develops fully through the first trimester. It connects baby to the placenta for nourishment. By the time of the early scan it is already there doing its job.
It develops in the early weeks of the first trimester, the body builds it along with the placenta. Your scans will show it and the doctor monitors blood flow through it later. If you have specific concerns, your gynac can explain with your reports.
Oh I was curious about this too, so it forms really early in the first trimester? Good to know it is already working by the time we see the baby on scan. The whole process is honestly amazing na.
