Saw internal os closed written in my last scan report and got curious about when it actually opens. Im 26 weeks now. Just trying to understand my reports better, anyone who knows pls explain simply.
From what I understood, normally the internal os stays closed through pregnancy and only starts opening near the end when labour begins. If a scan showed it opening early, that's something the doctor watches closely, sometimes called cervical issues. Best to ask your gynac exactly what your report means for you.
In a healthy pregnancy it stays closed till labour time near 9 months. If something in your check up worried you about this, ring your doctor and ask directly, they'll reassure you with the actual numbers from your scan.
I had a short cervix scare so I learned about this. The os should stay shut, if it's opening before term doctors take it seriously and may suggest rest or a stitch. If your report mentioned anything, dont wait, get your gynac to explain and guide. Please dont take this lightly.
Usually it opens only when you're at full term and going into labour. Early opening isnt normal and needs monitoring. If you got this question from a scan, please go over it with your doctor rather than guessing online.
