Just got my pregnancy confirmed and gynac appointment is next week. Im trying to understand the timeline a bit before going. When do the blood tests usually start and what are they for? totally new to all this.
I had thyroid so my blood tests were a bit more frequent to keep checking levels. Generally first visit and then at intervals through pregnancy. If you have any condition, doctor will add extra tests, so follow her schedule.
I was confused about this too. So far I had one big blood test in early weeks and now my doc said sugar test is coming up. They just tell u each time, so dont stress about the timeline.
Usually first trimester there's a basic blood panel, then a sugar test around 24-28 weeks, and a few more later. Don't worry about remembering, the doctor gives the slip each visit. Just go on time.
My doc did the first set of blood tests right at the start, things like hemoglobin, blood group, sugar, thyroid, infections. Then again around the middle and later for things like sugar and Hb. Your gynac will schedule them per your case.
There are a few rounds, early on, around mid pregnancy and later. I'd ask the doctor or lab for the full list upfront so I could plan the costs. Some packages are cheaper than doing tests one by one.
