Just crossed 10 weeks and confused about timing. Part of me wants to wait till things are more stable but my work involves some travel so im not sure. When did you all tell your office?
I made sure to check my maternity benefit and insurance policy first, then informed HR. Doing it after 3 months worked well, by then scans were normal and I could plan leave and finances properly.
Most of us wait till the 2nd trimester, around 12-14 weeks, once the risky early phase passes. I told my manager at 13 weeks and HR separately for the maternity leave paperwork. Gives them time to plan and you peace of mind.
Tell them when you feel ready, no fixed rule. But practically, inform HR early enough to sort out your maternity leave under the law, that process takes time. Manager I told after first trimester.
I was so nervous about telling my boss honestly. Waited till 14 weeks once I felt more secure. Did anyone tell earlier because of morning sickness showing? I almost had to.
No rush in first trimester unless your job has physical risk or lots of travel, then tell them sooner for safety. Otherwise after the first scan reports are good is the sweet spot. Keep it professional, just facts and leave dates.
