When should i start taking saffron during pregnancy?
My MIL keeps telling me to start kesar milk so baccha gora ho, lol. Im in my 2nd trimester now. Just wondering when is the right time to actually begin, anyone here started it?
Based on my experience, starting saffron in the second trimester, around the 5th month, is the safest. I used to put just 2 strands in warm milk at night, which really helped with my pregnancy body aches. Now that I am breastfeeding, I still look back at those cozy nights!
Oh, in my first trimester, even the smell of milk made me throw up, so kesar was out of the question! My gynac told me to wait until the 5th month anyway because saffron is warm in nature. Once my morning sickness settled down, I enjoyed a little kesar milk at night and it really helped me sleep.
I am currently planning my pregnancy and was actually wondering about this! My MIL keeps talking about kesar milk for a fair baby, but I heard saffron should only be started later. At which month did your doctors allow you to start taking it?
Let's be clear, saffron won't make your baby fairer, that's just an old myth. But yes, it is great for mood and sleep, so you can start having 1-2 strands in milk once you enter your second trimester. Avoid it completely in the first trimester, and always buy a trusted organic brand.
Honestly, there is no need to buy expensive saffron from the first month itself. Most doctors suggest starting 1-2 strands of kesar in warm milk only after the first trimester is over, around the 4th or 5th month. Just make sure you don't take too much because it produces heat in the body.
You can start taking a very small amount of saffron, like 1 or 2 strands in milk, after your fifth month. It is believed to help with digestion and mood swings. Just make sure not to use too much of it.
Having a PCOS history made me super cautious about everything I ate during my pregnancy. My doctor advised me to strictly avoid kesar in the first trimester as it can cause uterine contractions. I only started having 1 or 2 strands in my milk after completing 5 months, and that too after confirming with my doctor.
