When should i stop sleeping on my back during pregnancy?
Im a back sleeper since forever and now 18 weeks. Read that back pe sona is not advised after some point. From which week exactly should i switch, getting confused.
I know how anxious we get about doing everything perfectly during this precious pregnancy. I made the shift to side sleeping around week 16 just to be absolutely safe. Try using a soft pregnancy pillow between your knees, it helps a lot.
I felt so uncomfortable sleeping on my back around my 18th week, my stomach felt heavy and I was getting breathless. When I asked my doctor, she told me to strictly sleep on my sides. Using a pillow under my bump really helped.
My doctor explained that after 20 weeks, the weight of the growing uterus can compress the main blood vessel (vena cava), which reduces blood flow to the baby. So, it is best to start sleeping on your side, preferably the left side, from the second trimester.
Honestly, after the 5th month, sleeping on your back feels like you are carrying a sack of potatoes on your stomach anyway! Get a big maternity pillow and get used to left-side sleeping. Trust me, sleep as much as you can now!
Because of my PCOS and hormone issues, my doctor was very cautious and advised me to shift to side sleeping by week 16 or 17. It takes some time to get used to it, so start practicing early with lots of supportive pillows.
