Delivered my baby 2 weeks ago via normal delivery. Doctor gave a date for checkup but im not sure if I should wait that long or go earlier. Feeling fine mostly. When did you all go for the first postnatal visit?
Standard postnatal check is around 6 weeks. But before that, go immediately for heavy bleeding soaking pads fast, high fever, severe belly pain, or any wound issue if you had a c section. For the baby, follow the pediatrician schedule separately.
Other than the routine visit, I would say go if you get any breast issues like a hard painful lump or fever while feeding, that can be mastitis and needs treatment. I left mine too long once, big mistake. Dont hesitate to call for these things.
After my c section the doctor wanted to see me for the stitch check around 7-10 days, then again at 6 weeks. If you notice redness, swelling or oozing at the scar, dont wait, go in. Recovery is slow so be gentle with yourself and ask whenever unsure.
Apart from the routine 6 week visit, please also reach out if your mood is very low or you feel disconnected. I felt that and was scared to say it, but talking to my doctor helped so much. Your mental health counts as much as the physical stuff, dont ignore it.
I just went through this. They usually call you for a checkup around 6 weeks after delivery, but you dont wait for that if something feels wrong. Heavy bleeding, fever, bad pain or feeling very low, call sooner. I rang mine once before the date and they were happy I did.
