Just got my positive test today, super happy! Heard folic acid is really important in early days. When should i actually begin it, should i wait for my first gynac visit or start now?
Generally recommended from preconception through the first trimester at least, often continued longer. The early weeks are the key window. Your doctor will tell u the exact dose and how long to take it, so do confirm with her.
I read u should start it while planning itself, so i asked my gynac and she started me on it before we even conceived. Apparently the early weeks are crucial. Good that you're thinking about it now.
Ideally even before pregnancy, my doctor told me to start folic acid when we began trying, atleast a month before. Its most important in the first few weeks for the baby's spine and brain. If you're already pregnant, start now and tell your gynac.
Sooner the better. Both times my doctor put me on folic acid even in the planning stage. The first trimester is when it matters most. Dont self decide the dose though, let ur doctor prescribe it.
