When to take calcium supplements during pregnancy?
My gynac prescribed calcium along with my iron tablets but didnt really explain the timing. Should it be morning or night, with food or empty stomach? Im 5 months along and just want to take them right na.
I kept calcium for night and iron for morning so I wouldnt mix them up or clash absorption. Whatever your doctor says, just set a phone reminder, easy to forget with a busy schedule. Mine started it second trimester.
Usually calcium starts in the second trimester, around week 14 or so, but go by what your doctor prescribes. Tip, dont take calcium and iron at the same time, space them out for better absorption. That's what worked for me.
Timing of supplements really should come from your doctor since they balance it with your other meds. I had thyroid meds too so spacing everything out mattered. Keep your regular follow ups and they'll tell you exactly when to add calcium.
My gynac started me on calcium from the second trimester and told me to take it at a different time from my iron tablet, since together they dont absorb well. She also said taking it with food and not on empty stomach helped avoid acidity. Follow your own doctor's schedule though.
