Im in my last few weeks now and waiting for any sign of labour. My gynac mentioned the cervix dilation thing at my last visit. Just trying to understand when this opening actually starts happening?
It usually opens only at the time of labour. If you feel pressure, cramps or any leaking before your due time, please call your gynac right away. Early changes need checking, dont wait.
My doctor explained the cervix, the uterus mouth, stays closed through pregnancy and only starts opening near labour. They check the dilation when you are close to delivery. So it opening early is not normal and would be watched.
When I went into labour they kept checking how many cm my cervix had opened, that was the only time it really started. Before that it stayed shut the whole pregnancy. The body knows when its time.
