I am newly pregnant and my mom has made a big list of no foods. Some things sound old belief and some may be real, so I am confused. What foods did you actually avoid in first trimester?
Actually the main ones are raw eggs, raw fish, too much caffeine and that golgappa type street water yaar, infection risk. I avoided raw papaya too just to be safe. Keep food fresh and clean, that's half the battle.
Apart from the usual raw foods and unpasteurised stuff to avoid, I'd also gently say go easy on too many sweets and sugary drinks from the start. I learnt that the hard way later. But your doctor will tailor it for you, everyone's needs differ.
Main thing is avoid raw and stale food and dodgy street food, mostly to dodge infections and a costly hospital trip. You dont need fancy expensive diets, just clean home cooked meals and washed produce works perfectly fine.
In our family we always avoided raw papaya and excess pineapple in early months. Also stay away from leftover and stale food, only fresh cooked. But for anything serious or if you have allergies, listen to your doctor over old sayings.
My gynac gave me a list, basically no raw fish or meat, no street food that could be unhygienic, limit tea and coffee, and avoid raw papaya. She also said cut back on too much outside junk in the first trimester. Worth getting your own list from your doctor too since it can vary.
Stay away from raw or undercooked eggs and meat, unpasteurised milk and soft cheeses, and limit caffeine. Also papaya and pineapple in large amounts are usually avoided here. Wash all fruits and veggies well, that's the main thing.
