Im just 7 weeks and confused about sleeping position already. I usually sleep on my back but now thinking should i switch sides this early? what did u all do in the starting months?
Medically, sleeping on the left side is the gold standard because it keeps pressure off the main blood vessels. But honestly, in early weeks, your uterus is still small, so don't panic if you wake up on your back. Just gently roll over to your left side.
In early pregnancy, you can sleep however you feel comfortable, but sleeping on the left side is considered best. It improves blood flow to the baby. If you feel any mild backache, place a soft pillow between your knees.
During the first trimester, your body is still adjusting so you don't need to stress too much about sleeping positions. However, doctors generally recommend training yourself to sleep on your left side early on. It becomes a helpful habit as your bump grows later.
Look, in the first trimester, just sleep on whatever side gives you actual rest because tiredness is real. When I was working, I just slept however I could get comfortable. Once you reach the second trimester, definitely switch to the left side with a pregnancy pillow.
My pregnancy tracker app kept sending alerts that left-side sleeping is best for oxygen flow. I bought a C-shaped pregnancy pillow in my 8th week itself and it was the best decision! It physically blocks you from rolling onto your stomach.
I felt so guilty whenever I woke up sleeping on my back during the early weeks. I used to cry thinking I harmed my baby, but my doctor hugged me and said it's totally fine early on. Just try to sleep on your left side as much as you can, it gets easier.
