Why are beta blockers contraindicated in pregnancy?
I was on a beta blocker for my heart rate before and now that im planning, my physician told me we may need to change it. Just curious what exactly is the concern with these in pregnancy? wanted to understand before my next visit.
I was on BP meds and my doctor changed my tablet when I got pregnant for exactly this reason. Please never stop or take such medicine on your own. Let your gynac choose the pregnancy safe option.
Some beta blockers can affect the baby growth and heart rate, so doctors are careful with which one and the dose. They are not all banned, some specific ones are actually used under supervision. This really needs your gynac to decide, dont self adjust.
My doctor explained certain ones can slow the baby growth or affect blood sugar in the newborn, so they pick carefully. It is about choosing the right drug, not avoiding all of them. She managed mine closely with monitoring.
