My MIL keeps saying we should not conceive during aadi month, its a no-no in our family. I dont really understand the reason behind it. Anyone knows why this is said?
In our South Indian families, elders traditionally say newlyweds should stay apart in Aadi so the delivery doesn't happen in the extreme heat of May. But our doctor told us that medically, there is no difference at all. Trust your body and your doctor's advice over these old rules.
Scientifically, there is no medical reason why you shouldn't conceive in any month. The traditional Tamil belief of avoiding conception in Aadi was simply because the delivery would fall in Chitrai (April-May), the hottest summer month, which made postpartum recovery and newborn care very difficult in ancient times. My doctor confirmed that nowadays, with modern ACs and hospitals, any month is perfectly fine.
It is just an old traditional belief to avoid deliveries during the hot summer months. Don't worry too much about these dates. If you conceive, it is a blessing from god whenever it happens.
These are mostly traditional customs related to the weather and summer deliveries. From a health perspective, what actually matters is keeping your thyroid and other vitals in check before conceiving. Make sure to consult your doctor for regular checkups, no matter which month you try.
I was also reading about this tradition recently! It's because a baby conceived in Aadi would be born around April or May, which is peak summer. Has anyone here had a summer delivery? Was it really that difficult to manage?
