My sugar test came slightly on the higher side and the doctor mentioned gestational diabetes. Im 26 weeks and a bit shaken honestly because i never had sugar issues before. Why does this suddenly happen in pregnancy?
I had gestational diabetes so I read up a lot. Basically the pregnancy hormones make your body less able to use insulin properly, so sugar rises in some women. My doc managed mine with diet and walking mostly. Its quite common, dont feel bad if it happens, just follow the doctor and diet.
My gynac explained that the placenta makes hormones that resist insulin, and if the body cant keep up, blood sugar goes high, thats gestational diabetes. She said its why they do that glucose test around the 6th month. Usually goes after delivery but needs monitoring.
With my pcos history my doc said I was a bit more at risk for it, so we watched closely. Its mainly the hormones affecting insulin. Im not an expert but the diet and follow up she gave really helped keep mine in check. Trust your gynac on this.
It happens because hormones mess with how your body handles sugar during pregnancy. Some get it, some dont. I managed by spacing my meals, cutting sweets and walking after dinner since I had no time for gym. Dont skip that glucose test, its important.
