Since my pregnancy started, I've been sweating so much, even when it's not that hot! It's really uncomfortable. Why do I sweat so much in pregnancy compared to before?
I am in my 20th week and I literally wake up drenched in sweat even with the AC on! I was so worried if this is normal or if I have some infection. Is anyone else also sweating like crazy in their second trimester?
Welcome to the pregnant life where you are basically a walking, talking radiator, haha! Your body is working double shifts to build a human, so you're bound to sweat like you're in a sauna. Just drink your water and stay near the AC!
My doctor explained that during pregnancy, our blood volume increases by almost 50% and our metabolism goes into overdrive. This raises our basal body temperature, causing the sweat glands to work much harder to cool us down. It's completely normal!
Oh, dealing with extreme sweating on top of morning sickness is the absolute worst, I feel you. I used to sip cold lemon water or coconut water to stay hydrated and cool. Make sure you keep your electrolyte levels up because sweating drains you.
When I was at my parents' house, my mom used to make sure I wore only breathable mulmul cotton suits. She would give me sattu sherbet and mint water to cool my body down from within. It really helped with the constant hot flashes.
I used to panic thinking I had a fever because my neck and back were always sweaty! But then I realized it's just hormones and completely harmless. Just wear loose cotton clothes and keep a portable fan with you, it gets better.
