Why do you get metallic taste in mouth during pregnancy?
I'm in my first trimester and experiencing a strange metallic taste in my mouth constantly. It's quite bothersome. Why do women get a metallic taste in their mouth during pregnancy?
Ugh, don't remind me, it felt like I was chewing on coins in my first trimester! It's just those crazy hormones working. Thankfully it gets better, now in my 3rd trimester I'm just dealing with zero space in my stomach.
I had this too and actually spent money on expensive mouthwashes before realizing simple salt-water rinses work best. Save those bucks for the upcoming hospital delivery charges! It goes away on its own after first trimester mostly.
It's called dysgeusia and it is due to hormonal changes, very normal. Try sucking on some lemon candy or drinking ginger water, it really helps. But if you feel too nauseated or can't keep food down, do check with your gynac.
For me, this metallic taste started around week 7 and lasted till week 14. I just kept chewing on mints or drinking cold water to ignore it. It is super frustrating but it did stop eventually.
