My baby is 3 months old and suddenly my hair is falling in clumps, like i see it everywhere on the pillow and in the shower. Its honestly scaring me. Is this a normal post delivery thing and why does it even happen?
Mostly its the normal postpartum shedding and it stops on its own. But since I had thyroid, I'll add this, if hair fall is heavy and not slowing after several months, get your thyroid and iron checked once. Worth ruling out with a simple blood test.
Oh I cried over this honestly, my hair came out in clumps after delivery. I felt like I was going bald. Turns out its super normal, the hormones drop and all the hair that didnt fall during pregnancy falls together. It does settle by around 6-12 months, hang in there.
My doctor explained it nicely. During pregnancy high estrogen keeps your hair from shedding so it looks thick. After delivery the hormone drops and all that retained hair sheds at once, they call it telogen effluvium. It regrows, but if it feels extreme she said check thyroid and iron.
Same here after my section, around 3 months postpartum the hair fall started big time. It scared me but my gynac said its hormonal and temporary. Eating well and not stressing helped, slowly the baby hairs grew back near my forehead.
Mine started while breastfeeding and I worried it was due to feeding, but doc said its the postpartum hormone change, not feeding. Gentle handling, no tight hairstyles, good diet. It passes na, dont panic.
