I noticed my areola has become darker and bigger and it surprised me. I feel a little conscious even though I know body changes happen. Is this common early in pregnancy?
Nothing wrong beta, its the hormones doing their thing, more pigment in that area. Body is just preparing for feeding the baby. It evens out later, so dont fuss over it. Very normal change.
My doctor told me its the pregnancy hormones increasing melanin, so the skin there darkens. One theory is it helps the newborn locate the nipple to feed since their vision is blurry. Totally normal and it usually lightens again after delivery and feeding phase.
I noticed this early and felt a bit alarmed honestly, didnt know it was normal. Its the hormones causing more pigment. Same thing gave me the dark line on my tummy too. It faded mostly after baby came. Nothing to worry about.
Hormonal pigmentation, happens to almost everyone. Same reason you get the linea nigra on the belly. Dont try any creams to lighten it now, it settles down on its own after the baby. Its one of those normal pregnancy body changes.
