Im in my second trimester and have this annoying dry cough that wont go, no cold or fever just the cough. It gets worse at night and i dont want to take anything without asking my doc. Why does this happen in pregnancy, anyone else faced this?
Dry cough is pretty common in pregnancy because your immunity is a bit lower and the nose-throat area gets dry and sensitive with the hormones. I kept a humidifier on and sipped warm water through the day, helped me a lot.
Beta, dry cough often comes from dryness and acidity in this time. Warm water, a little honey in warm water if your doctor is okay with it, and steam can soothe it. But if it stays many days or you get fever, do check with the doctor.
Mine started as a simple dry cough and I waited too long. Please dont self medicate at all during pregnancy. Tell your gynac, especially if there is any breathlessness or fever along with it.
I had the same, amma told me to do steam and gargle with warm salt water. It eased slowly. But anything you take internally, do confirm with your doctor first, na.
Happens a lot, mostly seasonal or because of acid reflux which is super common in pregnancy. Avoid cold and oily food, keep your head a bit raised at night. If its not settling, get it checked, dont just keep coughing.
