Why glucose tolerance test during pregnancy?

My doc asked me to do the GTT next week where i have to drink that sweet drink and wait. I dont have diabetes so im wondering why its needed for everyone? Just trying to understand before i go.

My doctor explained its done usually around 24-28 weeks to screen for pregnancy diabetes. You drink the glucose solution and they check blood sugar after. Its standard for everyone, not just at risk women.
