My hb came low in second trimester reports and the doctor said its common but i still want to understand why it happens. I eat normal food na so im surprised. Did anyone else have low hb during pregnancy?
Cheap home foods help a lot honestly, spinach, jaggery, dates, beetroot. The iron tablets from the govt hospital are free or very cheap too. Just keep getting your hb checked each visit to track it.
My doctor explained that blood volume increases a lot during pregnancy, so the hemoglobin gets a bit diluted, and on top the baby uses iron. That is why low hb is so frequent. She told me to take iron after meals so it doesnt upset the stomach.
It is super common, the body needs more iron in pregnancy and a lot of us run low. Both my pregnancies my hb dropped. Doctor gave iron and I added more leafy veg and dates, it came up fine.
My amma always said the baby takes a lot from the mother so iron goes down naturally. She made me eat ragi and greens. But I also took the iron tablets my doctor gave, both together helped.
If your hb is dropping a lot please dont ignore it, mine went quite low and needed proper attention. Diet alone wasnt enough for me. Tell your gynac the exact number so she can decide the right iron support.
