My BP was normal before but now in pregnancy it suddenly showed high at checkup. I am scared because I don't understand why this happens. I will follow up with doctor, but anyone else got this only after pregnancy?
It can happen for many reasons during pregnancy and the body going through so many changes. Dont scare yourself reading online. The important part is keeping your check ups regular so doctor catches it early if it rises. They handle it well when watched properly.
There can be a few reasons, hormones, weight, stress, sometimes a condition called preeclampsia. I had raised BP in mine so I'll say please dont take it lightly. If yours is reading high, especially with swelling, headache or vision changes, call your doctor right away. It needs proper monitoring.
My gynac explained that in pregnancy BP can rise because the body and blood volume change a lot, and sometimes the placenta affects it. She said in some women it's just pregnancy related and goes after delivery, but it has to be watched because high BP can affect baby and mom. That's why they check it every visit.
I dont want to sound like I know it all, but from what my doctor told me, things like existing health issues, weight, family history and stress can play a role. Mine watched my BP closely because of my PCOS background. Honestly your gynac is the best person to explain your specific case.
Several causes can be behind it. In my pregnancy I already had thyroid so they monitored my BP extra carefully. The main lesson I learnt is never skip the follow ups, because they catch these things at routine readings. If yours is high, regular monitoring with your doctor is key.
