My gynac wrote double marker with NT scan and I nodded there, but later I realised I don't understand why it is needed. This is my first pregnancy so every test name makes me nervous. What was it explained as to you?
My gynac explained the double marker is a blood test done around 11 to 13 weeks to check the risk of certain chromosomal issues like Down syndrome. Its a screening, not a confirm test. They combine it with the NT scan for a better picture.
Its basically a screening test in the first trimester to see if baby is at higher or lower risk for some genetic conditions. Both my pregnancies I did it. If it comes low risk you relax, if high risk doctor suggests further tests.
I have this coming up next week and was nervous too. From what I read its just a routine screening blood test with the scan. Good to know its standard, thanks for asking this.
I overthought mine so much before results lol. But really its just a precaution test for early risk screening. Try not to spiral like me, wait for the doctor to explain numbers calmly.
It estimates risk, it does not diagnose anything by itself. So even a flagged result just means more testing, not a confirmed problem. Your doctor is the best person to read your specific report.
