Why is folic acid important when trying to conceive?
We are planning since last month and my friend kept saying start folic acid pehle se. I dont fully understand why its needed even before conceiving na? Can someone explain in simple words.
Look, there is no need to overthink this. Folic acid is simply essential for the baby's early development, even before you get that positive test. Just visit your gynecologist, get the right prescription, and take it every single day without fail.
Since the baby's neural tube closes in the first few weeks of pregnancy, you need folic acid in your system from day one. That's why doctors always recommend starting it at least a month or two before trying. It's just a simple, necessary step to keep things safe.
Please don't skip this at all, it is extremely crucial. Folic acid helps prevent major birth defects in the baby's brain and spine which develop very early. My doctor made me start it three months before we even tried again, so please consult your doc and start immediately.
Oh I remember panicking so much when my doctor prescribed this, I thought something was wrong with me! But actually, it is just a super standard vitamin that almost every woman takes to prepare her body for a healthy pregnancy. It's totally normal and very safe, so just take it daily.
It's basically like the ultimate prep work for your body! Along with the pills my doc gave, I was also eating lots of spinach, beetroot, and citrus fruits because they are rich in natural folate. Think of it as building a yummy, healthy nest for the baby.
