Why is gestational diabetes worse in second pregnancy?
I had gestational diabetes in my first pregnancy and now I am pregnant again. I heard it can come earlier or stronger second time, and that made me nervous. Did anyone have it again in second pregnancy?
I had GD in both and it did feel tougher the second time. My doctor said its partly age, partly that ur body already had insulin resistance once, plus we usually have less time to rest and exercise with a toddler around. Diet control and monitoring really helped me manage it though.
My gynac explained that if u had GD before, ur risk is higher again and it can show up earlier and stronger. Factors like increased age and weight between pregnancies add to it. They usually start testing u sooner in the second pregnancy because of this.
It can feel harder beta because the risk carries over and our bodies change between pregnancies. But it is very manageable with diet, light activity and regular sugar checks. Lean on ur doctor early and dont be hard on urself.
Honestly second time round we are older, often heavier, and running after the first kid so less self care. All that makes sugar harder to control. With my second i got my diet sorted early and walked daily, made a real difference. Stay on top of the monitoring.
Time is the real enemy second time, with a job and an older child u barely get to plan meals or walk. Thats why GD feels worse. I started prepping simple meals in advance and squeezing in short walks. Talk to ur doctor about an early test plan.
