Im in my 7th month and my gynac keeps telling me to sleep on my left side only. I do it but honestly nobody explained why left and not right. Can someone tell me what's the actual reason behind it?
Left side is best for circulation to the baby, doctors recommend it in later months. But dont stress if you turn at night, just go back to left when you notice. I used a pillow behind my back to stay put.
All the apps I used kept reminding me left side after the 2nd trimester. It helps blood and nutrients reach baby better. I put a pregnancy pillow between my knees and it became so comfy.
My gynac told me sleeping on left side improves blood flow to the baby and to your kidneys, because it takes pressure off a big vein. Thats why they keep saying left side, esp later in pregnancy.
It's mainly to keep the blood flow smooth to your baby and avoid pressure on the main vein. Left is ideal but right is okay too, just avoid flat on back in later months. Dont lose sleep over it though.
