I had a bad headache and almost took my usual painkiller out of habit but then stopped myself. Read somewhere those are not safe in pregnancy. Just curious why exactly, want to understand it properly.

Best not to take any such painkiller without your gynac's okay. They have reasons to avoid certain ones in pregnancy. For pain just call and ask what is safe for you.
Those painkillers can affect the baby's circulation and are usually avoided, especially in later pregnancy. That is why doctors steer you to safer options instead. Never take them on your own, always ask.
My doctor explained these can cause issues for the baby's heart and kidneys, more so in the third trimester. She gave me a different safe pain option when I needed it. So they are avoided for good reason, only use what your doctor prescribes.
