Everyone in my family keeps telling me to avoid papaya now that im pregnant, even my MIL got tense when she saw me eating fruit salad. i'm 3 months in. what's the actual reason behind it na? is it all papaya or only raw?
My amma also told me no papaya during early months, it is a common belief at home. I followed it calmly but I always double checked with my doctor for anything serious. No need to stress over it too much.
Oh I was so confused about this too. So the green raw one is the problem and not the orange ripe one? I had a tiny bit of fruit salad last week and panicked for no reason maybe.
With both my pregnancies I simply skipped papaya fully, why take tension over one fruit. There are so many other fruits to enjoy. Easy to just avoid and stay relaxed.
Actually my doctor explained it nicely. Unripe or semi-ripe papaya has latex which can cause uterine contractions, that is the real concern. Fully ripe papaya is generally considered ok in moderation but she told me first trimester just avoid to be safe.
Beta, in our homes raw papaya was always kept away from pregnant women. The unripe one and its white sap is the thing they worry about, na. Ripe sweet papaya in small amount my daughter ate fine, but better you ask your gynac once before deciding.
