Read somewhere that breathing changes during pregnancy and tidal volume goes up. Im now 5 months and i do feel like im breathing differently, sometimes feels deeper. Just trying to understand the actual reason behind it.
Basically your body needs more oxygen now, for you and the baby. Hormones like progesterone make you breathe a bit deeper, so each breath takes in more air, thats the tidal volume going up. Its a normal adaptation, nothing to worry about.
Oh is that why I feel like I am breathing more deeply lately? I got worried something was off. Did others feel a bit breathy too? Good to know its the body taking in more oxygen for baby.
When I asked my doctor why I felt like breathing deeper, she explained progesterone increases and it makes the lungs take in more air per breath. The growing baby needs extra oxygen and the body adjusts by raising tidal volume. Quite clever how the body manages it actually.
Dont worry, its just your body being smart. It increases how much air you take in per breath so the baby gets enough oxygen. Hormones drive it. Totally natural, happens to all of us.
