Why tooth extraction is contraindicated in pregnancy?
Im having terrible pain in one molar and the dentist said better to wait till after delivery for removal. Im 4 months. Why is it not allowed now, is it about the anesthesia or something else?
It's about avoiding unnecessary risk from anesthesia and radiation early and late in pregnancy. If you have tooth trouble, dont suffer in silence though, see the dentist and let both dentist and gynac decide the timing together.
It's not fully banned, but doctors usually avoid it in the first and last trimester because of anesthesia, x rays and stress on the body. The middle trimester is considered safer if it's really needed. Always tell the dentist you're pregnant.
Elective extraction is postponed to avoid medication and imaging risks and to not strain the pregnancy. But emergencies are handled with precautions. Best to get your dentist and gynac on the same page about it.
Mainly because of the meds, x ray and the stress involved, they prefer to wait or do it only if urgent. Second trimester is the okay window usually. For a small thing they'll often just manage it till after delivery.
