Can a pregnant woman fly on 5th month of pregnancy?
My in-laws live abroad and I'd love to visit them during my pregnancy. I'll be in my fifth month. Is it generally safe for a pregnant woman to fly during the fifth month?
Haan, 5th month is the best time for travel na! I also took a flight in my second trimester. Just make sure you get that doctor's certificate because airlines ask for it, and drink lots of water during the flight.
I totally understand wanting to travel or visit family during this time, dear. If your doctor says it is safe, go ahead and enjoy, but please take a comfortable aisle seat so you can stretch your legs easily.
Please don't book any tickets before consulting your gynecologist. Even though the 5th month is generally safe, only your doctor knows if you have any complications like a low-lying placenta which makes travel risky.
Yes, the second trimester is actually the safest time to fly. My doctor said flying in the 5th month is fine, but I had to carry a 'fit-to-fly' certificate from her. Also, remember to wear compression socks and walk around every hour to prevent clots.
Beta, if it is not very urgent, try to avoid long journeys. But if you must fly in your 5th month, keep yourself hydrated, drink warm water, and don't lift any heavy bags yourself.
