Yes it definitely can. Sperm can survive few days inside, so sex a day or two before ovulation is actually one of the most fertile times. That's how my second one happened actually.

My gynac told me sperm can live up to about 5 days, so intercourse in the days leading to ovulation can absolutely cause pregnancy. The fertile window is mostly the few days before ovulation, not just the day itself.
