I sometimes make desserts with agar agar instead of gelatin. Now pregnant and just want to be sure its safe to eat. Does anyone know if its okay during these months?
Agar agar is a great plant-based gelatin and very low in calories, which I loved as a healthy treat. I used to have a little jelly after my evening walk if my doctor allowed. Just make sure to drink plenty of fluids with it.
It is a very cheap and easy dessert to make at home if you have sweet cravings. Just make sure you cook it properly and use pasteurized milk to avoid any infections. Homemade desserts are always best to save on hospital doctor fees later!
I panicked when I read online that agar agar might cause bowel blockage! But then I realized that only happens if you eat dry powder or massive amounts without water. Eating it in jelly or pudding is absolutely normal and safe.
I totally understand those sudden sweet cravings that keep us awake at night! You can absolutely enjoy a small bowl of agar agar pudding. Just make sure to stay well-hydrated throughout the day, take care of yourself.
I am in my third trimester and actually craving China grass jelly! My gynac said having it in normal dessert portions is perfectly safe. Are you planning to make it at home or buy it from outside?
Haan na, China grass pudding can be eaten, it is made of agar agar which is totally vegetarian. Just don't have it in huge amounts and drink plenty of water since it has high fiber.
Oh, I made so much China grass during my pregnancy because it was the only sweet thing that didn't make me vomit! It's perfectly safe in normal culinary quantities. Just don't use it as a medicine or fiber supplement.
