Can we take benadryl cough syrup during pregnancy?
Got a really annoying cough since two days and im 14 weeks. Saw benadryl at home and almost took it but stopped myself. Will check with doc anyway, just wanted to know if anyone has asked their gynac about this.
I know how stressful it is to get a cough during pregnancy and worry about which medicine to take. When I was pregnant after my long IVF process, my doctor warned me not to take any over-the-counter cough syrups like Benadryl without asking first. Please give your gynac a quick call, they will suggest the safest medicine for your baby.
Honestly, please don't take any self-medication during pregnancy. When I was pregnant, I had thyroid issues and was always checking with my doctor for every tiny pill or syrup. Benadryl can sometimes have active ingredients that might not be ideal, so let your doctor prescribe a safe alternative during your regular follow-up.
Don't take any cough syrup blindly, especially when you are pregnant. If you are having a bad cough, just drop a quick WhatsApp message to your gynac's assistant or call them to get a safe prescription. For immediate relief, try sipping warm ginger water or doing hot steam inhalation, it saves time and is completely safe.
Stop taking these self-prescribed syrups immediately, didi! Benadryl or any other cough syrup should never be taken during pregnancy without asking your gynac first. Just call your doctor's clinic and ask them what is safe for you, and stick to warm water gargles till then.
Please avoid taking any OTC syrups like Benadryl because many cough syrups are loaded with sugar and can spike your blood glucose levels. Since I had gestational diabetes, I had to be super careful about hidden sugars in liquid medicines. Ask your doctor for a sugar-free or safe option instead.
