I'm pregnant for the first time, and I'll be having my scans soon. Can someone explain in simple terms how scanning is generally done during pregnancy? I'm curious about the process.
Since I have PCOS, my dates were irregular and they did a transvaginal scan (TVS) first to check the heartbeat. It's a bit uncomfortable but completely safe. Later scans are just normal gel on the belly.
For early weeks, they might do an internal scan which is a surprise if you aren't expecting it! Later on, it's just cold jelly on the tummy and trying not to pee while they press down. Trust me, it's an adventure.
In the 3rd trimester, scans are just about lying down on that bed and trying to get up with this huge belly! They apply gel on your stomach and move a probe around. It is totally painless, just cold jelly.
Pehle trimester me thoda internal scan karte hain heartbeat dekhne ke liye, normal hai bilkul. Baad me toh belly scan hota hai gel laga ke. Tension mat lo, bahut pyaara feeling hota hai baby ko screen pe dekhna na.
I was so scared before my first scan, thinking if it will hurt the baby. But the doctors are very gentle. If it's early they do TVS, please wear comfortable clothes so you don't feel awkward. You will be fine!
My tracker app had a detailed guide on ultrasound types. In early weeks (before 8 weeks), transvaginal scan is common because the fetus is tiny. After 12 weeks, they do abdominal scans which are super quick.
