I'm in my first tri and havent told anyone at office yet, getting a bit nervous about how to bring it up with my manager. He's nice but I dont know the right time or words yaar. Anyone been through this, how did u tell?
I waited till my 12-13 weeks then told my manager directly in a 1:1, kept it simple. Just said Im expecting, due around X, and we can plan handover later. Keep it professional, you dont owe a long explanation.
Tell them after first trimester usually, once scan is fine. Email or face to face both work, I did it in person and then dropped a short mail for record. Also read your company maternity policy before the chat so you know your leave.
Best to do it once you feel ready and scans look ok, usually post 12 weeks. Go prepared with your due date and a rough leave plan, that makes them take you seriously. Keep it short and confident, you got this.
My MIL told me dont announce too early na, so I waited for the 3 month scan first. At work I just told my boss simply and shared the joining back plan. Felt lighter after saying it.
No rush in the first weeks, most people share around 3rd month. Be clear about your expected leave dates and ask about work from home if needed. Your HR policy matters more than the conversation tone honestly.
Dont stress too much about this yaar, managers hear this all the time. Pick a calm moment, tell them straight, and focus on the plan part. Most are supportive, mine actually congratulated me first thing.
