My doctor may give me antibiotics for infection and I got nervous because I am 13 weeks. I know we should not take anything on our own, but are antibiotics sometimes given in pregnancy? Please share if your gynac prescribed.
Some antibiotics are safe in pregnancy and some are absolutely not, and you cant tell which is which on your own. Please never take one from a leftover strip or a chemist suggestion. Only the one your gynac prescribes knowing you are pregnant.
It really depends on which antibiotic and which trimester, so a blanket yes or no isnt right. The safest approach is to let your obstetrician decide. If you have an infection that needs treating, treating it is also important for the baby, so dont avoid the doctor out of fear.
When i got a UTI in my second trimester my doctor gave me a pregnancy safe antibiotic and it was totally fine. The key is she chose it specifically. Dont skip treatment but dont DIY it either, just take an appointment, its quick.
Short answer, only if a doctor prescribes it after knowing you are pregnant. There are certain antibiotics doctors give safely all the time for infections, and others they strictly avoid. So the antibiotic isnt the issue, self medicating is. Always tell whoever prescribes that you are pregnant.
