Is loperamide safe in pregnancy?

I've been having some stomach issues and was wondering if I can take Loperamide for relief. Is it safe to use this medication during pregnancy if I have diarrhea?

Please do not take loperamide without consulting your doctor first. Since I had complications in my pregnancy, my gynac told me that even common over-the-counter medicines can be unsafe for the baby.

My mom always said to avoid taking any pills during pregnancy unless the doctor prescribes it. For loose motions, she used to give me simple buttermilk with a pinch of salt.
