I saw the term 'os' mentioned in some pregnancy forums, but I'm not sure what it means. Can someone please explain what 'os' refers to when talking about pregnancy?
It basically refers to the opening of your cervix. During most of the pregnancy, it stays closed to protect the baby, and then it starts dilating (opening) when you go into labor.
I saw 'internal os closed' on my scan and got worried, but my doctor laughed and said it's actually great news because it means the cervix is shut tight to keep the baby safe inside.
I panicked so much when I saw the word 'Os' on my report and started googling. It just refers to your cervix opening, which should normally be 'closed' during pregnancy. Please ask your gynac to explain it so you don't worry like I did.
My scan report says 'internal os closed'. I am a bit anxious, is this what everyone else's report says too? I'll ask my doctor on Monday but wanted to check here first.
The state of the 'Os' (cervix opening) is very important to prevent early labor. If your report says closed, that's perfect. If there's any mention of 'open' or 'short cervix', please follow your doctor's advice immediately.
