My doc has written OGTT in my next visit list and asked me to come fasting. I have no idea what this test checks for and the fasting part is making me nervous. Can someone explain whats it about and is it uncomfortable?
OGTT is the glucose tolerance test they do to check for gestational diabetes, that's how mine got caught. They give u a sugary drink and check ur blood sugar after some time. Please dont skip it, catching GD early really helped me manage it well.
My gynac scheduled it around 24-28 weeks, she said it's standard to screen for sugar issues in pregnancy. You usually fast before and they take blood at intervals after the glucose drink. It's a bit boring with the waiting but very important.
Heads up, it takes a couple hours with the waiting between blood draws, so keep the morning free. I carried water and a book. Dont eat after the fasting starts, follow the lab instructions exactly.
