What to expect after methotrexate for ectopic pregnancy?
Going through a really hard time, was diagnosed with ectopic and got the injection few days back. Emotionally drained tbh. Just want to know from anyone who has been through this what to expect in recovery, both physically and the follow up part.
You should expect some cramping and bleeding, which you can log in your health app to keep track of the patterns. It's very important to track your hCG drop week by week until it is completely negative. Keep a digital record of your lab reports so you can easily show them to your doctor.
It is honestly a tough ride physically and emotionally, so please give yourself grace. You might feel super exhausted and have some cramping or bleeding as the hormone levels drop, which is totally normal. Just keep your favorite snacks nearby and sleep as much as your body demands right now.
I am so incredibly sorry you are going through this painful experience; please know that you are not alone. After the injection, you might feel crampy and experience some bleeding, but please monitor your pain closely. If you feel sudden, severe pain on one side or dizziness, contact your doctor immediately.
Expect some cramping and bleeding, which is the body's way of clearing things out. Please make sure to get your blood tests done exactly when scheduled by your clinic to ensure the treatment is working. Keep some heating pads ready, drink warm fluids, and rest as much as possible.
After the injection, your doctor will closely monitor your hCG levels on days 4 and 7 to make sure they are decreasing. You can expect some vaginal bleeding, mild abdominal cramping, and fatigue as the pregnancy tissue dissolves. My doctor strictly advised avoiding folic acid supplements, alcohol, and intercourse until the levels reach zero.
