Im around 20 weeks and noticed my breasts feeling fuller, got me thinking when does the milk actually start forming. Is it only after delivery or does it begin earlier? Just curious how it works.
Colostrum can be there from the second trimester onward, body prepares early. The actual milk supply kicks in after delivery, usually within 2 to 4 days. Dont worry if you dont leak during pregnancy, many dont and still feed perfectly fine.
The early milk, colostrum, actually starts forming in the second trimester for many, around the middle months. Some women even notice a tiny leak later on, totally normal. The full milk really comes in a few days after delivery though.
Just went through this, I didnt leak much during pregnancy and panicked a little, but right after delivery the colostrum was there and milk came in by day 3. So timing is different for everyone.
The first golden milk forms quite early, often mid pregnancy, even if you dont see it. The real flow comes after baby arrives. Nothing to worry about if you notice or dont notice anything now.
I remember around my later months I noticed a little yellowish discharge and I felt so emotional realising my body was already getting ready. Thats the colostrum. The proper milk flow came after baby was born.
