My gynac told me to come for a stress test next week, im in 37th week. Honestly i didnt even ask her properly what its for, felt shy. Can someone explain why they do it and is it painful?
They usually do it when they want to be sure baby is okay, like if u r overdue, less movement, or high risk. Quick test, just sit and the machine records everything. Carry a snack, sometimes they want baby active.
With my GD they did stress tests more often towards the end to keep checking baby is comfortable. Its a safety check, nothing to worry. Doc will tell u exactly why they want it for u.
Its basically to check how baby's heartbeat responds, usually a NST (non stress test). My doctor did it in last weeks to make sure baby is getting enough oxygen and is doing fine inside. Totally painless, they just strap a belt on your tummy.
I had this done couple times near my due date. They monitor baby's heart rate and movements for like 20-30 mins. For me it was actually relaxing, got to hear the heartbeat the whole time. Nothing scary.
Dont let the name scare u, its not a hard test. They just watch how baby's heart reacts to movement and contractions to confirm everything is fine. Your doctor is just being careful, that's a good thing.
