This is so weird na, my mouth keeps filling with extra saliva and i keep spitting. Im in first trimester. Never heard anyone talk about this, is it normal?
I am in my 5th month now and still get this sometimes when I wake up. Does anyone else also get a metallic taste in their mouth with it? I'm hoping it completely stops soon.
Honestly, excess saliva is just another glamorous pregnancy symptom nobody warns you about! I always carried a small spit cup and tissues in my bag. It usually disappears by the second trimester, so hang in there.
This excess saliva is so annoying but totally normal due to hormones. I used to keep small pieces of ginger or elaichi in my mouth, it really helped control the spit and nausea. Try it, it's cheap and works well.
I had this horribly during my first trimester, to the point I couldn't even swallow my own spit. Sipping cold lemon water or chewing sugar-free gum helped me survive. It goes away gradually after delivery, don't worry.
It's called ptyalism and usually happens alongside morning sickness in the first trimester. Your hormones are stimulating salivary glands. Just keep spitting it out, rinse with a nice minty mouthwash, and stay hydrated.
Oh dear, I totally understand how uncomfortable and embarrassing this can feel. It used to make me feel so miserable in my early weeks. Just hold on, your body is doing a wonderful job growing your little one.
