My first trimester thyroid report came and the TSH is on the higher side, gynac wants to start me on something. I dont really understand why it goes up in pregnancy, was it already there or did pregnancy cause it? just trying to understand pls.
Mine went high in first trimester also, doc told me pregnancy itself can push TSH up because hormones change a lot. She started me on a small thyroid tablet and made me repeat the test every 6-8 weeks. Pls dont ignore it, just keep following up regularly and it stays in control.
I panicked so much when mine came high, kept googling at 2am. But my doctor calmed me down saying its super common in pregnancy and very treatable. Talk to your gynac instead of reading too much online like i did.
There can be many reasons, sometimes its hypothyroidism that was already there and pregnancy just made it show up. Honestly the safest thing is to let your gynac read the report and decide, dont compare your number with anyone else's.
Dont worry too much beta. My mom kept giving home tips but high TSH really needs the doctor to handle with proper tablet and timing. Get it checked properly and follow the dosage she gives, it settles nicely.
Both my pregnancies my TSH was on higher side. Body needs more thyroid hormone when baby is growing, so the number goes up if your gland cant keep up. Just take the medicine on empty stomach like doc says and retest, simple.
